Townley to compete in the ASA Late Model Series at SGMP
Fayetteville, Ga. (March 23, 2009) – NASCAR driver John Wes Townley of Watkinsville, Ga. will return to his racing roots in the ASA Late Model Series this weekend when he competes in the South Georgia 100 at the half-mile South Georgia Motorsports Park in Adel, Ga. on Saturday night March 28.

The 19-year-old Townley, a Raybestos rookie of the year contender in the Nationwide Series, posted a pair of career bests last weekend in NASCAR’s junior circuit when he qualified 12th and finished 16th in the Scotts Turf Builder 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday.

Townley, who finished fourth in the ASA Late Model South Division championship standings in 2007, will pilot the No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford prepared by Wayne Hansard of Brothers Racing Team in Saturday evening’s 100 lap event.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to return to the ASA Late Model Series,” Townley said. “I’ve always considered it to be among the premier short track racing series in the country.

“And South Georgia Motorsports Park is one of the best motorsports facilities in the nation. It’s also one of my favorite race tracks. All of this should make for a fun way for me to spend an off-weekend from the Nationwide Series.”

Townley returns to action in the Nationwide Series on Saturday April 4 when he competes in the O’Reilly 300 at Texas Motor Speedway.

“Having John Wes come race with us on his off-weekend from the Nationwide Series is great, he is starting to come into his own in the Nationwide Series and he knows what it takes to win in an ASA Late Model Series car, I expect him to be one to beat this weekend. I look forward to spending some time with him and his dad (Tony) their great people and huge supporters of the ASA Late Model Series” stated Series President Ron Varney.
